Isaac Peter Klassen (1899-1996) was born in the village of Neu-Schönwiese/Dmitrowka to Peter Peter Klassen and Justina Driedger. He spend six years in the village school and later attended the Central school in Osterwick, Chortitza, South Russia. He lived through the hardships in Russia during the First World War and the Russian Revolution. In 1926 he with his wife Maria Siemens (1905-) immigrated to Canada and settled in Starbuck, Manitoba with his relatives. In May of 1927 they moved to Winnipeg where he eventually died. They attended the Schönwieser Mennonite church starting 1928 and he was ordained on December 24, 1944. He wrote a history of the Schönwieser mult-congregartional church in 1969, entitled Dem Hernn Die Ehre.
This fonds consists of Klassen's collection of poetry, sermon notes, research on doctors in Russia, recollections from Russia, and two manuscripts: "The Kronsweide Mennonite Church in Russia: Its Villages and Elders" and "Im Zyklus der Zeit"
